The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) adjudicates on alleged serious breaches of the rules and regulations applicable to solicitors and their firms. It acts as both a first instance decision maker and considers appeals of decisions made by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Its powers include the ability to impose a fine, order a suspension from practice and to strike a solicitor off the Roll.
As part of a wider consultation later this year, the SDT is expected to review the standard of proof it applies. To help the Law Society respond to this, they have published a discussion paper on which they are seeking members' views.
Please send your responses by Friday 1 December, by emailing email@example.com, or by post to Regulatory Affairs Unit, The Law Society, 113 Chancery Lane, London WC2A 1PL.
