General Election 2017

General Election 2017

Following the announcement that a General Election will take place on 8 June, all public sector bodies entered a formal Pre-Election Period from 21 April until the election during which their activities are restricted.

This period does not formally apply to the Law Society. However, during the period of increased political sensitivity, the Society will need to be especially careful that they are politically neutral and do not say anything that might prejudice their relationship with any potential incoming government or encourage someone to vote for a particular party or candidate.

Ahead of the election, the Society has set up an online action to allow members to write to their local candidates to highlight law and justice issues. The action only takes 5 minutes and includes a pre-written letter, which is available here. The Society hopes you will take the time to do so.
