Jo Wharton

Jo Wharton

Law Society of England & Wales Council Member

Jo is from Northern Ireland and qualified there in 1997. Subsequently, she practiced in Jersey, The Channel Islands and Perth, Western Australia before settling in Teesside in 2001 (with the allure of a Boro husband). After 17 years in private practice as a corporate solicitor, Jo's current role is an in-house one; as General Counsel with the px Group.

Jo was President of TVLS in 2011-2012, and was elected to the National Council in 2013. As a Council Member, Jo is (along with her fellow Council Members) responsible for the main policy decisions and overall direction of the National Law Society.

Jo also sits as a Magistrate and is Assistant Coroner for Teesside.

Jo's claim to fame is that her granny's cousin (Peter Doherty) as manager of Northern Ireland, took them to the quarter finals of the 1958 FIFA World mean feat for such footballing minnows!
